Clark beach management plan ipswich

We would like to respond to the letters submitted against the work that the AGN has been doing at Clark Beach and repair of the seasonal access road.

The access road was severely damaged by storms this past winter and desperately needed to be maintained and repaired back to a usable condition.

The AGN board is a knowledgeable group of individuals (volunteers) who are following a maintenance plan for the Clark Beach road, which was approved by the AGN board and the Ipswich Conservation Commission and stands as a guide for the maintenance of the road.

As we understand, the board met with the conservation commission representative to review the work before, during, and after the project was complete, and there were no issues or concerns raised by the representative at that time.

It was only after pressure from one individual that the conservation commission changed their stance on the topic and issued an enforcement order that reduced the road width from its previous design requirements.

Many of the residents of Great Neck walk the road to the beach daily and can do so safely, now that the road is free of ruts, large holes, and debris.

A well-maintained road and parking area also allows residents who have moorings on Clark Beach to safely access their moorings.

A road of smaller width, as suggested by the conservation commission, creates an additional hazard for walkers and drivers. A road of adequate width that can safely accommodate walkers and vehicles and is well maintained allows the residents of Great Neck to have safe access to Clark Beach.

There should be a balance between the enjoyment of our beaches and environment protection.

We strongly believe that the conservation commission should support the AGN and the thoughtful and pragmatic policies that they have put in place.
